Lost

I got lost today. I have been running trails over the last few weeks. Today I chose a new one. The plan was to run out for two miles, turn around, and come back, no map necessary. I ran past the map without a second thought. Left at the fork, right at the bridge. Eventually, I lost track of my path. At mile 5 of a 4-mile run, it settled in that I was lost. On a trail, you have no choice but to keep moving forward, even if it is in the wrong direction. When I found a trailhead, not the one from earlier, I could study the map. My eyes found the “You are here” indicator and traced a line back to where my truck was. The path from here to there became clear.

In life, we tend to blow past the map and lose track of our steps. Before you know it, you are in the woods and have no idea how to get out. We lose sight of our anchor points and flounder.

If you have lost the path and are unsure where you are and how to move forward, look to the things that give clarity. Study scripture, worship in community, and seek the will of God for your life. Throughout all of time, these practices have helped humanity find the path.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.” Psalm 11:105 (NIV)
