Friends

My legs felt like someone had poured an entire concrete truck’s heavy slurry into them. The concrete sludge made gravity’s hold on me stronger than normal. Every excuse imaginable was creeping into my mind. If there was ever a legitimate day not to stick to the training plan, it was today. But I was meeting my friend at the trailhead in thirty minutes. Shorts, shoes, water, and external motivation, let’s go!

The workout called for an easy run. The pace was quick, but the effort was minimal. We talked most of the run, but the splits were tight. After we finished and I checked the log, our pace was faster than normal!

We were designed to live in a community. God put it in our very nature. Introverts and extroverts are all the same in this primordial groaning from our soul. We need each other. When we surround ourselves with the right people, it pushes us to be better and to grow in the right direction.

The lone wolf's narrative seems cool on paper, but it is really the anxious, depressed lone wolf. We cannot function on our own for very long. We need to surround ourselves with people going after the same things as us. When you do, you will see how much your friends push you to be better and more disciplined. Find a good friend group.
